Job Purpose
The Civil Engineer is responsible for ensuring the structural integrity, safety, quality, appearance, and functionality of hotel buildings and related facilities across Hotels Group. The position will oversee civil construction, renovation, repair, maintenance, and improvement projects, working closely with hotel management, engineering teams, contractors, consultants, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely on time, within budget, and in accordance with approved standards and specifications.
Job Descriptions
- Conduct regular inspections of hotel buildings, structures, roofs, walls, floors, ceilings, external areas, and other civil works.
- Identify structural defects, deterioration, water leakage, cracks, settlement, corrosion, and other building-related issues.
- Recommend appropriate repair, preventive maintenance, and improvement measures.
- Monitor the condition of guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, staff facilities, and external facilities.
- Ensure civil maintenance works are completed according to required quality standards.
- Maintain proper records of inspections, defects, repairs, and maintenance activities.
Construction & Renovation Projects
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise hotel renovation, refurbishment, extension, and new construction projects.
- Review drawings, BOQs, specifications, method statements, and construction schedules.
- Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, M&E engineers, consultants, contractors, and suppliers.
- Monitor construction progress and ensure work is carried out according to approved drawings and specifications.
- Conduct site inspections and verify workmanship and materials.
- Identify construction issues and provide practical engineering solutions.
- Ensure projects are completed within approved timelines, budgets, and quality requirements.
Contractor & Consultant Management
- Supervise and coordinate contractors performing civil, renovation, repair, and construction works.
- Monitor contractor performance, manpower, materials, work quality, and progress.
- Review quotations and assist in evaluating contractors and suppliers.
- Verify completed works and quantities before recommending payment.
- Ensure contractors comply with hotel policies, safety requirements, work permits, and site regulations.
- Coordinate defect rectification and ensure proper handover after project completion.
Cost & Budget Control
- Prepare cost estimates and budgets for civil maintenance, renovation, and construction projects.
- Review BOQs, quotations, variation orders, and contractor claims.
- Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets.
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining quality and safety.
- Assist in preparing annual CAPEX and repair & maintenance budgets
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all civil works comply with applicable building codes, regulations, safety requirements, and company standards.
- Monitor construction and maintenance activities to ensure safe working practices.
- Ensure proper use of construction materials and approved specifications.
- Participate in risk assessments and site safety inspections.
- Report structural or safety risks immediately to management.
- Support the hotel in maintaining a safe environment for guests, employees, contractors, and visitors.
Hotel Operations Support
- Respond promptly to civil-related maintenance issues affecting hotel operations.
- Coordinate with Front Office, Housekeeping, F&B, Security, and other departments regarding maintenance and renovation activities.
- Minimize disruption to guests and hotel operations during construction and repair works.
- Support emergency response activities involving building or structural issues.
- Provide technical advice to hotel management on building-related matters.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain updated records of building drawings, as-built drawings, inspection reports, maintenance records, and project documents.
- Prepare weekly/monthly progress reports for assigned projects.
- Prepare technical reports and recommendations for management approval.
- Track project milestones, defects, variations, and completion status.
- Ensure proper documentation and handover of completed projects.
Continuous Improvement
- Recommend improvements to building maintenance procedures and standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve property quality, durability, energy efficiency, and operational effectiveness.
- Support standardization of civil maintenance and renovation practices across Max Hotels Group properties.
- Keep up to date with construction technologies, materials, building standards, and hotel engineering practices.
Job Requirements,
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
- Relevant professional engineering certification/license is an advantage.
Experience
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in civil engineering, construction, property development, building maintenance, or hotel engineering.
- Experience in hotel, resort, commercial building, or property development projects is highly preferred.
- Experience managing contractors and renovation projects is an advantage.
Working Hours: 9:00 AM ~ 5:00 PM
Holidays: Saturday, Sunday & Public Holidays
